Children’s Holiday Venture (CHV) is a society of the University of Edinburgh and the UK’s only fully student run charity. We began in 1963 and aim to provide a safe, supportive and fun environment for the children and young people we work with.

We do this by taking groups of children on activity nights every two weeks. These activities range from trampolining and swimming to games nights and painting pottery.

We work with approximately 120 children between the ages of 8-16. They live in Niddrie, Craigmillar, Bingham, Pilton, Muirhouse and Granton. These are areas noted as having higher levels of unemployment, poorer housing and fewer recreational facilities than the Edinburgh average (OPCS 2001). The children are referred to us by teachers and social workers who feel that CHV can enhance the child’s development in some way.
